Talyn Vigil held on $2 million bond in Preston Lord case after release-condition review
Talyn Vigil was booked into jail early Wednesday and is being held on a $2 million cash-only bond as he awaits trial in the death of Preston Lord, a Queen Creek teenager. Vigil faces charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping and aggravated robbery. At a court hearing at 2 a.m. Wednesday, a judge ruled on a motion to change his release conditions. Vigil has not been convicted in Lord’s death. If Vigil posts bond, he will return to the conditions previously imposed: electronic monitoring, house arrest, and alcohol and drug testing. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 14 at 8:30 a.m. The renewed scrutiny of his release follows three arrests since he posted bond. Maricopa County Pretrial Services asked the court to reconsider his release after those arrests. At an earlier hearing, Judge Sam J. Myers delayed a decision, saying he needed evidence, such as police reports or body-camera footage, before assessing whether Vigil had violated release conditions. Prosecutors said they could provide evidence, while both sides agreed to reset the hearing so the defense could obtain relevant information. The most recent arrest occurred in September in Tempe, where Vigil was accused of drag racing on a motorcycle near Arizona State University. He faces misdemeanor reckless-driving and speeding charges in that case. Vigil was also arrested in September 2025 in connection with an alleged violation of an order of protection. Court documents say he initially denied communicating with and meeting the person covered by the order, then acknowledged doing so. He was jailed in November 2025. In February 2026, Gilbert police arrested him on a reckless-driving charge. Vigil was indicted in March 2024 on murder and kidnapping charges and posted a $1 million bond the following month. His defense has disputed whether he was at the scene of the attack that killed Lord.
