Police report two disturbances, staff assaults at Chandler youth behavioral health center
CHANDLER, Ariz. — Juvenile patients at Oasis Behavioral Health in Chandler were arrested after two disturbances Oct. 4 that involved assaults on medical staff and police officers, according to the Chandler Police Department. Officers arrived shortly after 7:30 p.m. to a disturbance involving dozens of patients. Police said a nurse had been assaulted, and one juvenile identified as responsible was taken into custody on an aggravated assault charge. About three hours later, while officers were still investigating, several patients forced their way into a locked medication room, damaged a dispensing machine and gained access to controlled substances, police said. A nurse and another staff member were assaulted. Several patients ingested medication, received treatment from fire personnel and were taken to a nearby hospital. Two juveniles were booked into juvenile detention in connection with the later incident, and the Arizona Department of Child Safety was notified, police said. Two Chandler officers were also assaulted while trying to stop the disturbance; police said two juveniles were arrested and booked on aggravated assault charges. The department’s account did not clarify whether those arrests overlapped with the juveniles booked in connection with the medication-room incident. Police said 278 general offense reports had been filed at the facility in 2026 as of the Oct. 4 incidents. The department did not provide further details about the reports or the conditions of the patients taken to the hospital.
