Phoenix police arrest 23-year-old in fatal shooting of two men near 16th and McKinley

Taishawn Bailey was arrested Wednesday and faces two counts of premeditated first-degree murder in the deaths of Charles Hendrix, 56, and Jerry Braggs, 64. Police say a firearm was recovered during his arrest but have not said whether it was connected to the killings.

A 23-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the fatal shooting of two men near 16th and McKinley streets in Phoenix, police said. Taishawn Bailey faces two counts of premeditated first-degree murder in the deaths of Charles Hendrix, 56, and Jerry Braggs, 64. Detectives arrested Bailey near 48th Street and Baseline Road, about eight miles from the shooting scene. Police said officers responded shortly after 4:30 a.m. Tuesday to reports of gunfire and found both men with at least one gunshot wound. Phoenix Fire Department personnel pronounced them dead at the scene. The suspect had left before officers arrived, police said. A firearm was recovered when Bailey was arrested. Police have not said whether it was connected to the shootings. Jail records list Bailey’s bond at $2 million. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 14. The charges are allegations; the case will proceed through the court system.
