Apache Junction police seek possible victims after arrest in reported assault
APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. — Police are seeking information about possible additional victims after the arrest of a 32-year-old man accused of kidnapping and assaulting an 18-year-old woman. The woman was arriving home from work at about 1 a.m. on Sept. 24 near 16th Avenue and San Marcos Drive when a man allegedly approached her with a gun and forced her to leave with him, police said. Authorities allege Pedro Espinoza Torres held her against her will for several hours and assaulted her multiple times before releasing her. She sustained severe injuries and went to a local hospital, where staff notified law enforcement, according to police. Investigators used automated license plate reader technology to help identify Torres, who was arrested Sept. 25. Torres faces charges including kidnapping, four counts of aggravated assault, two counts of sexual abuse and first-degree burglary. The charges are allegations; the case remains under investigation. Police said a vehicle associated with Torres is a gold-yellow 2014 Jeep Wrangler. They are asking anyone who had a similar encounter with him, saw the vehicle in suspicious circumstances or has information about potentially related incidents to call the Apache Junction Police Department at 480-982-8260.
