Phoenix officers to step up Halloween enforcement in neighborhoods

PHOENIX — Phoenix police plan to increase patrols on Halloween, focusing on impaired driving and speeding as more children and families are expected to be walking through neighborhoods, the department said Oct. 26.

The heightened presence comes amid crashes and DUI incidents reported across the Valley daily. Police are urging drivers to plan ahead and slow down, particularly in residential areas where trick-or-treaters will be on foot.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration counted 201 deaths in alcohol-related crashes on Halloween night from 2019 through 2024. The agency’s tally underscores the risks associated with impaired driving during the holiday.

Police have not provided details in the announcement about patrol locations or the hours officers will be deployed. Drivers can reduce risk by arranging a sober ride before drinking and watching carefully for pedestrians, especially children, on neighborhood streets.
