A 45-year-old Gilbert resident was taken to a hospital with minor injuries after a pickup truck crashed into their home early Sunday while fleeing a police traffic stop, authorities said.
Gilbert police identified the driver as Gannon Dodge, 21. He was arrested and booked into jail on charges of aggravated assault, endangerment, reckless driving, driving under the influence and extreme DUI. The charges are allegations; the source did not report a court response from Dodge.
Officers first spotted the pickup driving recklessly in the Downtown District near Elliot and Gilbert roads shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, police said. They also saw the truck perform a burnout near Guadalupe and Gilbert roads.
When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver headed east at a high rate of speed, according to police. The pickup crashed into a home while attempting to turn at Burk Street. Fire personnel took the injured resident to a nearby hospital.
Police said two other people were detained. Authorities believe both speed and impairment contributed to the crash.
