Gilbert driver arrested after fatal July collision at Cooper and Merrill
Andy Felix, 25, was arrested on a manslaughter charge after investigators concluded he ran a red light and was speeding before a July crash that killed Pauline Gray. Police said they waited for forensic blood-test results before filing charges.
A 25-year-old man was arrested Friday on a manslaughter charge in connection with a July crash in Gilbert that killed 59-year-old Pauline Gray, police said.
Andy Felix was arrested on a grand jury warrant after detectives completed their investigation and received forensic test results from his bloodwork, according to the Gilbert Police Department. He was booked into the Maricopa County jail.
The crash happened shortly after 10 a.m. July 17 at Cooper Road and Merrill Avenue. Police said Gray was driving an SUV westbound and preparing to turn left onto Cooper Road when Felix, traveling north in a pickup towing a trailer, ran a red light and struck her vehicle.
Investigators believe Felix was driving between 59 and 65 mph. The collision overturned the pickup and heavily damaged the SUV. Gray died at the scene.
Police said officers observed possible signs of impairment after the crash, but submitted Felix’s blood for testing and delayed filing charges while awaiting the results.
In a statement, the department offered condolences to Gray’s family, friends and loved ones as they grieve her death. The manslaughter charge is an accusation; the available information does not indicate a court outcome.
