Four stranded on SUV roof rescued from flooded Wet Beaver Creek

Four people were rescued Thursday afternoon after floodwater swept their SUV downstream at a Wet Beaver Creek crossing near Rimrock, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called at about 3:15 p.m. to the area of Dragonshead Road and Culpepper Ranch Road. At the nearby creek crossing, they found the SUV had been carried roughly 150 feet by strong, fast-moving currents, with all four occupants stranded on its roof and calling for help.

Deputies provided the group’s GPS coordinates to an Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter. The crew reached the SUV and brought all four people to dry land. The sheriff’s office did not report any injuries.

The rescue unfolded near Sedona, in an area where flooded creek crossings can turn dangerous as water rises and moves quickly.
