Two arrested in fatal Dover shooting after Delaware State homecoming gathering
A 22-year-old man and a 17-year-old male have been charged in the Oct. 10 shooting that killed Nasir Cox and wounded another man near Delaware State University. Police say thousands had gathered at Dover Commons after homecoming visitors were required to leave campus.
DOVER, Del. — Two people have been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that killed a 22-year-old Philadelphia man during Delaware State University’s homecoming weekend, authorities said Wednesday.
Nasir Cox was shot Oct. 10 at the Dover Commons shopping center, where thousands of people had gathered after the university required homecoming visitors to leave campus by 6 p.m., investigators said. Police said Cox was caught in crossfire when gunfire broke out.
A second man, 21, was wounded and taken to a hospital. He was reported in stable condition.
The suspects are a 22-year-old man and a 17-year-old male. Both face first-degree murder charges, multiple weapons offenses and related charges. Police have not disclosed what led to the shooting.
Cox was not a Delaware State student, his family said. He had traveled to Dover to visit a friend and attend homecoming events.
