Norcross family takes ownership of Atlantic City’s former Trump Plaza site
George Norcross and his two children have bought the oceanfront property, most of which was demolished in 2021. The family has not announced plans for the site, which Atlantic City leaders say cannot become another casino.
The former Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino site on Atlantic City’s oceanfront has been purchased by South Jersey businessman George Norcross and his two children, a spokesperson confirmed Wednesday, Oct. 21.
The buyers have not disclosed what they intend to do with the property. Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small welcomed the investment and said city officials are waiting to hear the family’s plans. Small also said no additional casinos will be permitted in the city.
Small pointed to the Norcross team’s past business activity in Atlantic City, including its connection to Formica Bakery, and said he believes the purchase reflects investor confidence in the city.
Trump Plaza closed in 2014. Most of the former casino complex was demolished in 2021, after years of inactivity. Billionaire Carl Icahn took control of the property in 2016 during bankruptcy proceedings.
The site’s future could shape a prominent stretch of Atlantic City’s waterfront, but the new owners have not said whether they plan to redevelop it or what form any project might take. City officials said further details would come later.
