Mother and two adult children wounded in North Philadelphia home shooting
A gunman allegedly followed two siblings into their home on North 20th Street Wednesday morning, shooting them and their mother. Police said the man believed to be the intended target and his sister were stable; their mother was critically wounded but expected to recover.
Three members of a family were hospitalized after a gunman opened fire shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday on the 2800 block of North 20th Street in North Philadelphia, authorities said.
Police said the shooter approached a home and fired at a 29-year-old man and his 27-year-old sister, who were sitting on the front porch. The siblings ran inside, but the gunman followed and continued shooting, striking their 49-year-old mother, investigators said.
The man, whom police believe was the intended target, was shot three times. His sister was shot six times, and their mother was struck 11 times, authorities said. The siblings were in stable condition. Their mother was critically injured but was expected to recover.
A neighbor told reporters she heard what sounded like about 16 shots. Another resident said the violence was frightening given how close it came to her family’s daily school commute.
