Crash shuts down southbound I-295 near Exit 17 in Gloucester County
A multi-vehicle crash in East Greenwich Township left several people critically injured and closed all southbound lanes of I-295. Drivers were being turned around toward a nearby exit as emergency crews responded.
Several people were critically injured in a multi-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 295 near Exit 17 in East Greenwich Township, Gloucester County, on Wednesday, Oct. 21, officials said on social media.
All southbound lanes were shut down. Aerial footage showed several damaged vehicles, including one in a wooded area, and a medical evacuation helicopter arriving at the scene.
At about 6:20 p.m., motorists on the highway were being directed to turn around and use a nearby exit. Officials had not immediately released further information about the injured people or the circumstances of the crash.
