East Norriton crash that killed Drexel Hill man leads to felony charge
Philadelphia driver Andy Nunez Vasquez is charged in a Sept. 6 hit-and-run that killed Ricardo Baptiste, 29, of Drexel Hill. Investigators say a tractor-trailer struck Baptiste after a car hit him near Germantown Pike and Whitehall Road.
A Philadelphia rideshare driver has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in East Norriton that killed a 29-year-old man from Drexel Hill, Montgomery County prosecutors said Oct. 21.
Andy Nunez Vasquez, 43, faces a felony count of accidents involving injury or death and misdemeanor counts of failing to render aid and failing to report an accident to police, according to prosecutors.
Police say Ricardo Baptiste was crossing near Germantown Pike and Whitehall Road on Sept. 6 when Vasquez’s car struck him. While Baptiste lay in the road, a tractor-trailer hit and ran over him, investigators said. Vasquez allegedly left without reporting the collision.
Officers arrived at about 9:10 p.m. and found Baptiste unresponsive. He was taken to Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators used surveillance footage and license-plate reader data to identify a white 2015 Hyundai Sonata they say struck Baptiste. Phone and rideshare records also placed Vasquez in the area, according to the report.
Vasquez pleaded guilty to disobeying a traffic-control device in 2023, records cited in the report show. The new charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
