Giant stores stay open as parent company responds to cyberattack
A cyberattack affecting Ahold Delhaize has taken Giant Food Stores’ website and app offline, disrupting online orders. Stores and gas stations remain open, and customers can use third-party delivery services while the company works to resolve the issue.
Giant Food Stores locations and gas stations remained open Thursday, Oct. 15, as the chain’s parent company continued responding to a cyberattack that disrupted online ordering.
Ahold Delhaize, a Netherlands-based grocery company, said it learned of the attack Monday, Oct. 12. Three days later, Giant’s website and mobile app were still unavailable, according to a notice from the chain.
Customers can place delivery orders through Instacart, DoorDash and Uber Eats. Giant said customers will receive refunds for online orders that cannot be fulfilled. The company reported no indication that customer data had been compromised.
The disruption affects a major grocery chain serving the Philadelphia region and leaves customers unable to use Giant’s usual digital ordering tools while the systems remain down. A timeline for restoring the website and app was not provided.
