Fairhill rowhome fire claims mother days after 3-year-old daughter died

A woman injured in a fire at a Fairhill rowhome died Thursday morning, days after the blaze killed her 3-year-old daughter, Philadelphia fire officials said. The fire broke out Sunday at a home on D Street in North Philadelphia.

Officials have not released the names of the woman or child. Another child and an adult were also hospitalized after the fire, according to officials.

A preliminary investigation indicates the fire may have started with a lithium-ion battery from an e-bike in an upstairs bedroom. The investigation is ongoing, and officials have not announced a final determination about the cause.

The deaths came days after firefighters visited the area Wednesday to distribute and install fire alarms, officials said. The available information does not establish whether the home involved in Sunday’s fire was among those visits.
