Fatal stabbing in West Philadelphia ends with suspect in custody

One person was killed and a suspect was taken into custody Thursday morning after a stabbing led to a barricade situation at a home on Edgewood Street in West Philadelphia, officials said.

Philadelphia police responded at about 9 a.m. Oct. 15. Four people were inside the home, according to officials: one person died, two women walked out, and the suspect was arrested. Authorities had not released the victim’s identity or further details about the circumstances by late morning.

A witness described hearing what they believed were gunshots while near 60th Street, then seeing officers carrying rifles and blocking off nearby corners. The witness also said they heard that two women were being held inside; officials confirmed the women left the home but did not publicly confirm that account.

The barricade had ended by 11 a.m., but police remained at the scene as the investigation continued. Officials had not announced charges or identified the suspect.
