An armed man barricaded himself inside a SEPTA Route 18 bus in Fox Chase on Monday morning as police investigated a possible connection to the deaths of two women in East Mount Airy, authorities said.
The standoff began around 5:49 a.m. at Rhawn Street and Oxford Avenue, according to SEPTA officials. The bus had no driver or passengers aboard, officials said.
Police said the man might be connected to the women’s deaths. The women were found shot in the head inside a burning home in East Mount Airy earlier Monday. Family members later told a local television station that the man was involved in the killings; authorities had not publicly confirmed that account.
The barricade was still underway at about 8:45 a.m. Officers were at the scene. Police had not said whether anyone was injured in the bus incident, and further details about the investigation were not immediately available.
