Animal bones found during search of Olney home as missing-women probe continues
Philadelphia officials said no human remains had been identified at a West Chew Avenue home connected to at least seven missing women. Investigators are still testing DNA and examining other evidence recovered from the property.
No human remains had been identified by Tuesday, Oct. 20, at a West Chew Avenue home in Philadelphia’s Olney neighborhood that investigators are searching in connection with at least seven missing women, a city Department of Public Health spokesperson said.
Bones found in the property’s yard last week were determined to be animal bones, according to law enforcement sources. A law enforcement source close to the investigation also said investigators had not located human remains.
Police have connected at least seven missing women to the home, which belonged to Raymond “R.C.” Horsch, a filmmaker and erotic photographer who died in 2025 at age 82. Police have said video and photographs indicate Horsch may have been involved in the deaths of five women; no charges related to the missing-women investigation were reported in the information available Tuesday.
Investigators have searched inside and outside the home for several weeks. During an interior search using luminol, a chemical that can reveal traces of bodily fluids under special lighting, detectives found DNA. Because Horsch, his son and others lived at the property, the presence of DNA was not considered unexpected. Detectives are testing it to determine whether it is relevant to the investigation.
Investigators are also reviewing other evidence from the home, including a safe found inside the walls. Work at the property was expected to conclude this week.
The home has been under round-the-clock surveillance since late June, after Horsch’s son, Eugene Horsch, 44, was arrested on separate charges of impersonating a federal agent. Eugene Horsch inherited the property after his father’s death and remains in custody on federal charges involving false credentials and firearms. He has not been charged in connection with the missing women. His attorney has said he had no involvement in the searches.
