Piedmont council to weigh Beltline data center design as studies and safeguards remain unresolved

Piedmont’s City Council is scheduled to review Beltline Energy’s proposed data center master design plan at a meeting Monday, Oct. 26, as debate over data center development continues in the Oklahoma City-area city.

The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. The project remains in the planning process, and council review of the master plan would not amount to final approval.

The Planning Commission recommended in October that the council consider the plan, while urging that action wait until outstanding concerns are addressed. Those concerns include additional studies, landscaping and setback requirements, environmental-study setbacks and stronger measures to ensure ongoing compliance.

Even if the council adopts the master design plan, Beltline’s proposal would still need to return to the Planning Commission for a separate rezoning hearing.

The discussion comes amid public debate over another proposed data center in Piedmont, known as Project Open Sky. The Beltline plan’s next steps leave key questions about studies, site design and enforcement unresolved.
