A man accused of stealing a pizza delivery driver’s car was arrested Sunday evening after a police pursuit ended in the Oklahoma River, according to the Oklahoma City Police Department.
Police said the car was taken shortly before 6 p.m. from Southwest 23rd Street, where the driver had left it unlocked. After the driver reported it missing, an officer spotted the vehicle near Southwest 29th Street and Interstate 44.
The driver of the car did not stop when officers tried to pull him over, police said. He left the vehicle near Southwest 15th Street and I-44, then entered the river. He remained in the water for more than 10 minutes as a police drone followed him downstream and officers took positions along the bank.
Officers detained the man without incident, police said. Authorities did not identify him or announce any charges in the information released Sunday.
