Oklahoma City Shelters Expand Overnight Beds as Cold Snap Hits

Five metro shelters are opening their doors overnight for adults, youth, and families as temperatures fall, with varying age limits and hours. The patchwork of services leaves advocates urging residents to check eligibility before seeking help.

Oklahoma City Shelters Expand Overnight Beds as Cold Snap Hits

Oklahoma City — As overnight temperatures drop across the metro, five shelters have opened their doors to people seeking warmth, each with its own age limits and operating hours.

The Homeless Alliance is accepting adults 18 and older from 3 p.m. to 7 a.m. City Rescue Mission welcomes all ages from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sisu Youth Services is sheltering people ages 15 to 24 from 4 p.m. to 1 p.m. the following day. Pivot serves ages 16 to 24 from 4 p.m. to 9 a.m., and City Care is open to everyone from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.

The staggered schedules and age restrictions mean people seeking shelter need to know which site fits them before heading out. Youth under 18, for example, are served by Sisu and Pivot but not by the adult-only Homeless Alliance. Families and older adults can turn to City Rescue Mission or City Care, both of which accept all ages.

The openings come as the region transitions into its colder months, a period when unsheltered residents face heightened risks from hypothermia and exposure. Local service providers typically adjust capacity and hours as temperatures fall, though the availability of beds can vary night to night.

Residents who need shelter or know someone who does are encouraged to confirm each site's age requirements and hours before traveling. Those with questions about eligibility can contact the shelters directly.
