Oklahoma City releases first look at river-crossing pedestrian bridge
Renderings shared by Mayor David Holt show a planned pedestrian bridge alongside the replacement of I-35 bridges over the Oklahoma River. The project is intended to give people a safer way to cross the river and will be funded by state, city and federal partners.
Oklahoma City residents got a first look Tuesday at plans for a pedestrian bridge over the Oklahoma River, part of a broader project to replace the I-35 bridges crossing the waterway.
Mayor David Holt shared a rendering of the proposed bridge on Oct. 13. He said it would sit just beyond the finish line used for paddlesports events, offering spectators a view toward the city skyline.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation plans to replace the highway bridges in the coming years. The project also includes pedestrian bridges intended to provide a safe route between the river’s two sides, according to Holt.
Holt said the work will be funded by ODOT, Oklahoma City and the U.S. Department of Transportation. No construction timeline, cost or further design details were provided in the announcement.
