Oklahoma City traffic crashes kill three, critically injure pedestrian in 24-hour span
Three people were killed and a pedestrian was critically injured in four crashes across Oklahoma City within 24 hours, police said Tuesday, Oct. 13. Three of the crashes involved pedestrians; the fourth was a fatal motorcycle crash. Two fatal pedestrian crashes happened less than two hours apart Tuesday morning. At about 5 a.m., a vehicle struck a pedestrian near Reno and Rockwell avenues. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital and later died, police said. Less than two hours later, a man was struck and killed near Southeast 42nd Street and Shields Boulevard. Police also reported a fatal motorcycle crash near Southeast 29th Street and Eastern Avenue. In a separate hit-and-run near Southwest 59th Street, a pedestrian was critically injured. Police asked anyone with information about that crash to contact the Oklahoma City Police Department. Staff Sgt. Dillon Quirk urged drivers and pedestrians to look out for one another. He advised drivers to avoid distractions and impaired driving, slow down and give others room. People walking or biking should use designated crosswalks and wear bright or reflective clothing in low light, he said. With school in session, Quirk said drivers should also watch for children traveling to and from school. He emphasized that conditions can change quickly and urged motorists to give driving their full attention.
