Sean Beals was sentenced Monday in Oklahoma County to five years in prison and 15 years of probation for his role in the drive-by shooting that killed 9-year-old DeMarcus Fuller Jr. in Oklahoma City. Beals, identified as the driver, entered a blind plea and was convicted of accessory to first-degree murder, a lesser charge than the first-degree murder and conspiracy counts he initially faced. Fuller was killed Oct. 4, 2022, while playing video games at home. He was a third grader. Fuller’s aunt read a victim impact statement in court, describing the family’s grief over the four years since his death. “My nephew isn’t coming back. We have to go to his grave to see him,” she said. After the sentencing, she said the family could begin moving forward. “We got justice. Like, it’s been a long four years. I’m glad my family got justice today. It’s over. We can move on with our life,” she said. Beals was the last of four suspects to be convicted. Michael Williams was sentenced to life without parole, Austin Parker received a 35-year sentence and Micah Knighten was sentenced to eight and a half years. Dozens of employees from Diversion Hub, where Beals previously worked, attended the hearing in support of him.
