Medical examiner classifies deaths of Norman father and 4-year-old son in Texas

The deaths of 4-year-old Andres “Harry” Furley and his father, 25-year-old Caleb Furley, were classified as a homicide and suicide, respectively, by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office, Gainesville police said Oct. 27.

The medical examiner determined that Andres died from a gunshot wound to the head and Caleb died from a gunshot wound to the head. Police described the deaths as a devastating event for the family and community and said they extended their sympathies to those affected.

The father and son, who were from Norman, were reported missing in mid-October. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert for Andres, which was canceled the following day. The case also led to a child-stealing charge, according to the report, though police did not provide further details about the charge in the information released.

Gainesville police said they learned of the missing Oklahomans at about 1:30 a.m. Oct. 14, after a relative told officers the pair had been seen at a business on North Grand Avenue around 3 p.m. Oct. 12. Officers had previously responded to a call from the business about a suspicious situation involving a man and a child, but did not find them when they arrived.

Police reviewed surveillance video from the business and identified people they believed to be the father and son walking away from the area. During a search nearby, an investigator found the bodies. The medical examiner later identified them as Caleb and Andres Furley.
