Piedmont sends Beltline Energy data center plan back for more review
After a meeting that ran past midnight, Piedmont’s City Council returned Beltline Energy’s master design statement to the Planning Commission. Officials had identified outstanding questions about studies, landscaping, setbacks and compliance for the proposed 321-acre project.
Piedmont’s City Council sent Beltline Energy’s master design statement back to the city’s Planning Commission after hours of discussion that continued past midnight Monday into Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Beltline Energy is seeking to rezone 321 acres between North 2910 and 2920 roads, north of Azalea Street and south of East 870 Road, for a proposed data center. The council’s decision sends the design statement back for further consideration; it does not, on its own, settle the rezoning request.
The Planning Commission had recommended in October that the council review the master design plan, while advising against action until concerns were addressed. Those issues include additional studies, landscaping and setback requirements, and stronger measures to ensure ongoing compliance. Environmental studies and setbacks were among the matters flagged for further attention.
The Planning Commission is scheduled to meet Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. The project’s next steps will depend on the commission’s review and any further action by city officials.
