Gainesville police find man and child during search for missing Norman pair

GAINESVILLE, Texas — Police in Gainesville found a deceased man and child Wednesday while searching for a missing 25-year-old father and his 4-year-old son from Norman. Authorities had not confirmed the identities of the people found as of Wednesday afternoon.

The father and boy were reported missing from Norman on Sunday evening. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol issued an Endangered Missing Advisory Tuesday and an Amber Alert for the child around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Gainesville police said they learned of the missing Oklahomans at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, after a relative told officers the pair had been seen Monday afternoon at a business on North Grand Avenue. Police said officers had previously responded to a call from that location about a suspicious situation involving a man and child, but did not find them when they arrived.

After speaking with the relative, officers resumed searching the area and for a vehicle the pair may have been traveling in. Police said surveillance footage showed what appeared to be the father and son walking away from the area. An investigator then found a deceased man and child during the search.

Texas Department of Public Safety Rangers were called to assist. The medical examiner must make a positive identification; police did not provide information about the cause of death or other circumstances.
