Nashville loses IndyCar stop from 2027 calendar after 14 seasons in region
IndyCar’s confirmed 2027 schedule will not include a Nashville-area race, ending a run that spanned the Nashville Superspeedway and a downtown street circuit. The series says it would consider returning under the right conditions.
The NTT IndyCar Series will not race in the Nashville area in 2027, leaving the region off the schedule after 14 seasons of competition between 2001 and 2026.
IndyCar confirmed its 2027 calendar without a Nashville event. The series did not specify why the race was omitted, but said it remains open to a future return.
“We’re grateful to our fans across Middle Tennessee for their incredible support,” IndyCar said in a statement. “Nashville is a very strong race market, and we are open to returning at the right time and with the right circumstances in place.”
The Music City Grand Prix also thanked fans and partners, saying their support helped make the event a distinctive stop on the racing calendar and brought new fans to the sport in Middle Tennessee and beyond.
IndyCar first raced at Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon from 2001 through 2008. The series returned to the area in 2021 with a downtown street race, which ran through 2023. Construction of the new Nissan Stadium prompted the series to move back to the superspeedway from 2024 through 2026.
The event, most recently called the Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix and previously known as the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix, brought the series back to Nashville after a 13-year absence. Its last race in the region was at Nashville Superspeedway in 2026.
