Vehicles account for 537 reported gun thefts in Davidson County in 2026
Metro Nashville police say 537 firearms reported stolen in Davidson County this year were taken from vehicles—about 69% of all reported gun thefts. The total is down 278 from the same point in 2025, but police are urging people to lock cars and secure firearms.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Nearly seven in 10 firearms reported stolen in Davidson County so far in 2026 were taken from vehicles, according to Metro Nashville police data released Oct. 21.
Police said 537 guns had been reported stolen from vehicles this year, including 17 during the week before the release. The countywide total was 773 reported stolen firearms, putting the share taken from vehicles at about 69%.
The number of guns stolen from vehicles is lower than last year’s comparable total. At the same point in 2025, 815 such thefts had been reported, 278 more than this year—a decline of about 34%, police said.
The department urged residents and visitors to lock their vehicles, take their keys and keep valuables secure, with particular attention to firearms. A gun left in a vehicle can be stolen and potentially put into circulation beyond its owner’s control.
