Nashville judge removes Christa Pike case hearing from Friday docket

A hearing scheduled for Friday in Christa Pike’s case against Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti has been removed from the Nashville chancery court docket, according to a court order dated Oct. 22, 2026.

The hearing concerned the state’s motion to set a deadline for Pike to amend her complaint. The judge said the motion would be considered without oral arguments, noting that both parties had waived them. The order did not provide a new hearing date.

The court action comes after Tennessee’s Sept. 30 attempt to execute Pike was halted. Pike received two doses of pentobarbital but survived and was taken to a hospital. Her attorneys said she was discharged on Oct. 10 and returned to the Deborah K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center, where she had been held for more than 30 years.

Pike was convicted in 1996 for the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer, who was 19. Pike was 18 at the time of the killing in Knoxville.
