Nashville police investigate fatal shooting at Madison apartment complex

A 21-year-old man was killed and a 14-year-old boy was critically injured Thursday night in a shooting at Birchstone Village Apartments in Madison, according to Metro Nashville police. The victims appear to be brothers, police said.

Officers responded around 7:40 p.m. to the complex in the 600 block of North Dupont Avenue after reports of gunfire in the parking lot. The older victim was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center, where he died. The younger victim was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and remained in critical condition, police said.

Police said surveillance footage shows the two arriving in a black Infiniti sedan. A man approached and opened fire, then two other men appeared and also shot at the car, according to investigators. The driver tried to escape by backing up but crashed into a fence. The Infiniti was found at the scene with multiple windows shot out.

Police have described the shooting as a possible ambush. The department’s Homicide Unit is following leads on several suspects and reviewing surveillance video. No arrests were reported in the information released by police.
