A 52-year-old man faces a felony theft charge after Nashville police say he took an officer’s body camera during a fight Sunday at Kid Rock’s Big Honky Tonk on Broadway.
Officers were responding to the fight when the camera came loose and fell to the floor, according to arrest documents. Police reviewed security footage and identified the man as Jerel Hughes, who is accused of picking up the device and putting it in a bag.
Officers soon recovered the Motorola V700 camera. The arrest documents say it was visible through the bag because it was glowing red.
Hughes was charged with felony theft of property valued at more than $1,000. His bond was set at $2,500. Metro Nashville’s contract with WatchGuard, Motorola’s parent company, lists a discounted city purchase price of $650 for the cameras.
