MILWAUKEE — Brewers fans made a stop at the Bob Uecker mural at Mason and Jackson streets on Friday, honoring the late broadcaster as Milwaukee prepared to face the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 1 of the 2026 World Series.

The postseason excitement carried a bittersweet note for many supporters: Uecker, whose broadcasts accompanied generations of Milwaukee summers, died in 2025. Fans visited the mural to take photos and reflect on his connection to the team and the city.

“Been listening to him for years on the radio,” said Bob DeWitt of Manitowoc, recalling evenings spent listening to Uecker from his backyard.

Joel Sanchez, visiting from Puerto Rico, called Uecker “a very special person.” David Arvai of Racine said the mural was a must-see stop before the game.

Arvai also connected a ball that hit the stadium roof to Uecker’s presence, saying he imagined the broadcaster was helping the Brewers toward a win. Sanchez said Uecker remained an inspiration to the team and hoped Milwaukee could win the championship for him.

The Brewers entered the series seeking the franchise’s first World Series title. Uecker’s family, in a statement released during the week, said they believed he was still with fans wherever they gathered to cheer — at the stadium, in neighborhood bars or around radios at home.
