Milwaukee ends 12-game road playoff skid, sets up NLCS rematch with Dodgers
The Milwaukee Brewers are returning to the National League Championship Series after a 3-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night in Game 4 of their Division Series. Milwaukee took the best-of-five series 3-1 and will open the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday at American Family Field. The Dodgers advanced by beating the Atlanta Braves 4-1 on Wednesday. The Brewers scored first for the first time in the series, taking a third-inning lead on Garrett Mitchell’s RBI single. Fernando Tatis Jr. answered with a solo home run in the bottom half to tie the game. Milwaukee added runs in the fifth and sixth innings, then relied on its bullpen to protect the lead. Aaron Ashby pitched three scoreless innings in relief. Mitchell also made a crucial defensive play in the eighth, robbing Manny Machado of a deep drive that would have tied the game at 3 if it had cleared the fence. Left-hander Robert Gasser started for Milwaukee in his first appearance of the series. The Padres drafted Gasser, who pitched in their farm system before being traded to Milwaukee in 2022 as part of the deal that sent closer Josh Hader to San Diego. Walker Buehler started for the Padres after being reinstated from the paternity list earlier in the week. The win was Milwaukee’s first postseason victory on the road since 2018, ending a 12-game streak that tied the longest road losing streak in major league postseason history. The Brewers now face a Dodgers team that swept them in the 2025 NLCS and has won the past two World Series. Milwaukee has not reached the World Series since 1982.
