Four people were taken to a hospital after a car, a bus and a Milwaukee police squad car collided at 35th Street and Center Street before 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, police said. The car and bus entered the intersection while its traffic signals were out. The car hit the bus, which then crashed into a police squad car parked nearby with its emergency lights on, according to police. Two officers inside the squad car, the car’s driver and a bus passenger were taken to a hospital for evaluation. Police described their injuries as minor. Shanda Booker, a passenger on the bus, said she had been released from the hospital by Tuesday afternoon. She reported a small concussion, bruising and pain. The bus was carrying bus drivers, including Booker, to their work assignments. Booker said the intersection was dark when the bus arrived. She described being thrown across the bus during the collision and hearing another passenger call out to the driver. Milwaukee Department of Public Works officials said someone had cut the traffic-signal wires. The department said similar vandalism had happened twice in recent weeks. Crews worked at the intersection Tuesday to repair the signals. Police are investigating the vandalism and asked anyone with information to call 414-935-7360.
