MILWAUKEE — Family and friends gathered Saturday, Sept. 26, to remember Cameron Bowen, who was fatally shot a week earlier after getting off a Milwaukee County bus near Layton and Greenfield avenues. Bowen had turned 16 three days before his death, his mother, Jennifer Cassidy, said. She described the gathering as a way to honor him and keep his death from being forgotten. “My son deserves justice,” Cassidy said, adding that she intends to speak up for him. She urged the person accused in the killing to turn himself in and take responsibility. Prosecutors allege that on Sept. 19, 15-year-old Robbiel Stokes followed Bowen off the bus and shot him multiple times. Stokes, identified as Bowen’s classmate, has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide. A warrant has been issued for his arrest, and he remained at large as of Sept. 26. According to the criminal complaint, surveillance video from inside the bus showed Bowen standing behind Stokes, who was wearing a black hoodie and carrying a backpack. Cassidy said she hopes the case brings accountability and gives her a measure of closure as Bowen’s mother.
