After Cedarburg explosion, Jackson lieutenant begins rehabilitation as father remains hospitalized

Jackson police Lt. Mike Foeger was moved Thursday from a Milwaukee burn center to Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Center in Mequon, beginning the next stage of recovery from injuries suffered in a Cedarburg shed explosion on July 25.

Foeger, 54, and his father, Karl Foeger, 82, were both critically injured in the blast at a family property. Investigators believed a propane tank inside the shed may have contributed to the explosion.

After the blast, Mike Foeger crawled to a neighbor’s home to get help. His mother, Jill Foeger, said he was taken to the Mequon facility. Friends, family members and law enforcement lined the hospital hallways as paramedics transported him, and local officers provided a police escort.

Karl Foeger was still recovering at the Milwaukee burn center as of Thursday. Mike Foeger is a lieutenant with the village of Jackson Police Department and previously served as chief of the Newburg Police Department.
