Brewers superfan will carry his son’s memory into Milwaukee’s World Series
Brian Emmer plans to honor his son, Michael, at the Brewers’ World Series opener after buying tickets to all four home games. The two shared a lifelong love of Milwaukee baseball before Michael died unexpectedly in 2024.
MILWAUKEE — As the Milwaukee Brewers return to the World Series, longtime fan Brian Emmer plans to bring a small portion of his late son’s ashes to Friday’s opening game as a way to share the moment with him.
Emmer said he bought tickets for himself and his wife to all four potential home games, spending $2,300. He has been a Brewers season-ticket holder since 1980 and attended Game 3 of the 1982 World Series at Milwaukee County Stadium.
“I’ve been dreaming of this every year for 44 years,” Emmer said. He and his son, Michael, went to Opening Day together and attended many games over the years. Michael, who played Little League as a Brewer, was born during the 1982 World Series and grew up loving the team. He died unexpectedly in 2024.
Emmer said returning to the ballpark for the championship series feels especially meaningful. “I wish he could be here for us,” he said. “I know he would love it, but I’m going to honor him while I’m there.”
Emmer also bought tickets to the watch parties at American Family Field for the games played on the road. He said he believes the Brewers can win the series, and expects his son to be with him in spirit: “He’ll be watching.”
