Miami police look for damaged vehicle after pedestrian is struck near NW 7th Avenue
MIAMI — Police are searching for a driver who struck a pedestrian pushing an electric scooter near Northwest Seventh Avenue and 27th Street shortly before 6 a.m. Tuesday, then left without stopping, authorities said. The man, estimated to be about 30, was found unresponsive but breathing and taken to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition. Police said he is expected to recover fully. Surveillance video from a nearby auto garage shows the man crossing the street mid-block when a vehicle hits him and throws him into the air. Police said he was crossing with a woman pushing a bicycle. An officer fueling a vehicle across the street heard the collision and reached the scene immediately afterward. Police spokesperson Mike Vega said investigators are seeking a black or dark-colored sedan or SUV with extensive damage to its front end and windshield. Nelson Agustin, owner of Luxury Custom Garage, provided investigators with footage in hopes that someone might identify the vehicle or driver. Vega said the pedestrians were crossing mid-block, outside a designated crossing area. He also said that leaving the scene after a crash involving injuries can bring felony charges, rather than only traffic citations. Residents expressed concern about hit-and-runs in the area and called for the driver to be found. Police ask anyone with information about the vehicle or driver to contact Miami Police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
