Fence dispute ends in sword-related arrest in southwest Miami-Dade
Alvaro Alejandro Fonseca was arrested after a contractor reported threats during a disagreement over a fence near Fonseca’s home. Police say the contractor had a photo showing Fonseca holding a sword; Fonseca denied making the threats.
A disagreement over a fence under construction escalated into an arrest Wednesday in southwest Miami-Dade after a contractor told police that a nearby resident threatened him with a sword, according to an arrest report.
Alvaro Alejandro Fonseca was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. Officers were called about 3:18 p.m. to the 1500 block of Southwest 122nd Avenue, where the fence was being built next to Fonseca’s residence, the report said.
The contractor told police that the property owner had city permission to build the fence. He and Fonseca argued, and investigators say Fonseca went inside his home and returned with a sword. The contractor reported that Fonseca threatened to shoot him twice in the head and cut off his head.
The contractor said he feared for his life and began recording the encounter. He also took a photograph that investigators said showed Fonseca carrying the sword, according to the report.
Police said Fonseca denied making the threats after officers advised him of his rights. The arresting officer described Fonseca’s account as inconsistent. Fonseca was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center; records listed his bond as yet to be set.
