Country Walk shooting leaves pregnant woman hospitalized; records detail earlier protection request

A pregnant woman remained hospitalized Friday after being shot at her home in Miami-Dade County’s Country Walk neighborhood, where deputies say the man who shot her then killed himself.

Dalianis Lazo, 41, was in critical but improving condition at Jackson South Medical Center Friday afternoon, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. Lazo is six to eight weeks pregnant, authorities said. The shooting happened around 11 a.m. Thursday at a home on Southwest 148th Street.

Deputies found Lazo and Ivan Granado, 53, with gunshot wounds, sheriff’s spokesman Danny Castillo said Thursday. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced Granado dead at the scene and took Lazo to the hospital. Castillo said investigators believe Granado shot Lazo and then turned the gun on himself. The sheriff’s homicide bureau was investigating.

Court records show Lazo filed for a restraining order against Granado in April, identifying him as a former live-in boyfriend. In a sworn statement, she described ongoing threats, harassment, coercion and intimidation, and said she feared for her life and her parents’ safety. She also alleged that Granado owned a gun, had served in the military, abused alcohol and cocaine, and had been without stable employment for more than two years.

A Miami-Dade Circuit Court judge dismissed Lazo’s request on Sept. 30, citing “no just cause” and “insufficient evidence,” according to the records.

Neighbors described Lazo as quiet and kind. Next-door neighbor Cecilia Delfino said she heard a shout and three gunshots before emergency crews arrived. Deputies closed Southwest 148th Street between 155th Avenue and 154th Court as they responded.
