Alexander brothers face sentencing after women describe lasting harm in court
Nearly a dozen women addressed a New York federal court as three brothers convicted in a sex-trafficking case faced sentencing. Prosecutors sought life sentences, while defense lawyers asked for 15 years.
Nearly a dozen women spoke in court Tuesday as Oren, Alon and Tal Alexander awaited sentencing in New York for their convictions in a sex-trafficking case involving allegations of drugging and sexually assaulting women over many years.
One woman, speaking under a pseudonym, described being raped by Tal Alexander in 2014 and said the experience had shaped the life she might otherwise have lived. Another, also using a pseudonym, described a rape in the Hamptons and said a mansion that had seemed beautiful became a place of fear.
The brothers were convicted in March. Prosecutors asked U.S. District Judge Valerie E. Caproni to impose life sentences. Their lawyers sought the minimum sentence of 15 years and maintained the brothers’ innocence, while apologizing for conduct they characterized as insensitive toward some women.
Prosecutors have said the brothers used their wealth, celebrity connections and access to luxury properties to draw women into trips where they were drugged and assaulted. A court filing from prosecutors said at least 70 women were raped or sexually assaulted. The brothers’ lawyers have disputed the allegations.
Oren and Tal Alexander built high-end real estate careers, first at Douglas Elliman and later through their own firm. Alon Alexander worked for the family’s private security company. The three were arrested in 2024 and held without bail.
Caproni has said she believes the brothers should not serve time at the same prison because they had a harmful influence on one another. Their lawyers planned to argue that they should remain together in prison. The sentencing will determine the terms of their imprisonment after a case that brought testimony from women describing alleged abuse across years.
