MILWAUKEE — Brice Turang’s third hit of the night put Milwaukee ahead, and the Brewers added three more runs in the eighth inning to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals 8-4 on Friday. Turang’s ground-ball single through a drawn-in infield brought home Jackson Chourio and David Hamilton, breaking a 4-4 tie. William Contreras followed with an RBI single, and Jake Bauers added a sacrifice fly as Milwaukee pulled away for its 101st win of the season. The rally began with Chourio’s leadoff single against Luis Gastelum. After Justin Bruihl entered in relief, his first pitch hit Hamilton, who was preparing to bunt. Garrett Mitchell then laid down a sacrifice bunt, but reached first when Bruihl’s throw sailed high, loading the bases for Turang. Turang also hit two doubles. The win came one night after Milwaukee clinched home-field advantage throughout the postseason. Abner Uribe pitched a scoreless eighth and earned the victory. The Cardinals had erased a 4-1 deficit in the seventh. Jordan Walker opened the inning with a home run, and Alec Burleson tied the game with a two-run shot off Bryse Wilson, who had been activated from the injured list earlier Friday and was pitching for Milwaukee for the first time since Aug. 30. Iván Herrera had given St. Louis its first run with a solo homer in the fourth. Brewers starter Robert Gasser allowed just Herrera’s home run over six innings and struck out a career-high nine. He has given up three runs in 22⅔ innings over his last four appearances, lowering his ERA from 4.57 to 3.87 as he seeks a place in Milwaukee’s playoff starting rotation. St. Louis is scheduled to start Quinn Mathews against Milwaukee’s Dustin May on Saturday.
