Madison opens absentee voting ahead of Nov. 3 election

Madison residents can begin casting ballots for the Nov. 3 election on Tuesday, Oct. 20, with in-person absentee voting available at designated sites across the city through Saturday, Oct. 31.

Voters may use any of the city’s early voting locations, though schedules differ by site. The Madison Clerk’s Office has posted a list of locations and hours on its website.

Registered voters must show a valid photo ID. People who need to register may do so at an early voting site through Friday, Oct. 30, and must bring both photo identification and proof of their address.

Once registration is confirmed, voters mark a paper ballot using an ExpressVote ballot-marking device. They then place it in an absentee envelope and sign it with a voting clerk. The Clerk’s Office will keep the ballots secure until they are counted on Election Day.

Voters who received an absentee ballot by mail and have not returned it should make sure the Clerk’s Office receives it before polls close Nov. 3. Ballots arriving after that deadline will not be counted.
