Madison hazmat team examines unopened envelope sent to Rep. Mark Pocan’s office
An envelope resembling suspicious mail reported at congressional and election offices was delivered to U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan’s Madison office Monday. Initial on-site tests were negative for several factors, and the envelope was sent to the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene for further analysis.
A suspicious envelope sent to U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan’s Madison office was examined by a hazardous-materials team Monday after staff said it resembled mail reported at congressional and election offices around the country.
Pocan’s office said the envelope was not opened. The Madison Fire Department was notified, and its hazmat team responded. Initial on-site tests came back negative for several factors, but the envelope was taken to the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene for additional testing and analysis.
The incident follows a suspicious-mail report at the Wisconsin Elections Commission the previous week. That package was later deemed not dangerous. The results of the laboratory analysis of the envelope sent to Pocan’s office were not available Monday.
