Wisconsin courts add online starting point for restraining order requests
MADISON, Wis. — People seeking a temporary restraining order in Wisconsin can now start the process online through a state court portal launched in September, according to Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Jill Karofsky. The portal, available at ro.wicourts.gov, can be accessed from a phone or computer. It is intended to make it easier for people to seek court-ordered protection, particularly as Domestic Violence Awareness Month begins in October. Karofsky discussed the new resource in an interview earlier this week. The information available about the portal describes it as a way to begin the process; it does not specify that every step can be completed online. The online option gives residents a new way to start seeking legal protection without first going in person to a courthouse. People can visit ro.wicourts.gov to access it.
