WAUNAKEE, Wis. — Hundreds of volunteers are expected at Dane Manufacturing on Sunday, Oct. 11, for Food For Kidz’s 21st annual meal-packing event, where organizers plan to prepare about 300,000 meals in one day. The event is expected to bring the nonprofit’s total to five million meals packaged. More than 200,000 meals from Sunday’s effort are slated for distribution in Dane County through food pantries and organizations that serve families in need. The remaining meals will go to recipients elsewhere. The annual event brings community members together to prepare food for distribution, with volunteers working alongside pallets of supplies. The five-million-meal mark reflects more than two decades of the organization’s food-packing work.
