MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin State Patrol will conduct aerial traffic enforcement on two major Dane County routes this week, using pilots to identify potential violations from above and direct ground officers to make stops. The agency’s Air Support Unit is scheduled to patrol the Madison Beltline on Wednesday, Sept. 16, and Interstate 39/90/94 in Dane County on Sunday, Sept. 20. State Patrol officials said the operations are intended to promote public safety. During the enforcement details, pilots who observe a traffic violation will communicate with officers on the ground, who may then initiate a traffic stop. The agency did not provide additional details about the expected timing or specific locations of the operations. State Patrol also plans aerial enforcement this week in Winnebago and Waukesha counties. The agency carried out a similar operation on an interstate in Columbia County over the weekend.
