MADISON, Wis. — After a mostly dry and warm weekend, an unsettled weather pattern is expected to bring widespread rain to southern Wisconsin Monday and Tuesday, with some communities facing a risk of localized flooding. Saturday will remain dry across much of south-central and southwestern Wisconsin, with highs ranging from the upper 70s in the northwest to the lower and middle 80s in the southeast. Sunday should also be generally quiet, although a weak disturbance could produce a few isolated, light showers. Sunday night temperatures are expected to fall into the lower to middle 50s, with highs Sunday in the mid-60s to around 70 degrees. The more significant change is expected Monday afternoon and evening, when moisture carried northward by southerly winds will help fuel widespread showers and a few thunderstorms. Another round of rain is possible early Tuesday as a cold front moves through. Forecast guidance indicates that some locations could receive more than 2 inches of rain during the Monday-to-Tuesday period. That amount, especially where rain falls quickly or on already saturated ground, could lead to standing water, overwhelmed drainage systems and other localized flooding problems. The chance of severe thunderstorms Monday is considered low, but thunderstorms could still bring locally intense rainfall. Residents should monitor updated forecasts and be prepared for changing travel conditions during the Monday evening commute and Tuesday morning. Rain is expected to become more scattered from Wednesday through Friday, with the greatest coverage likely south of the region. Northeastern Iowa and southwestern Wisconsin could still see occasional showers or storms. Communities that receive heavy rain early in the week may face renewed flooding concerns if additional rain develops later.
