Madison teen ordered to stand trial over alleged State Street-area shooting
An 18-year-old faces five felony counts after prosecutors alleged he fired up to a dozen shots at a vehicle downtown in June. A Dane County judge bound the case over for trial Wednesday; a not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf.
MADISON, Wis. — Rakim Parson, 18, will stand trial in Dane County in connection with a June shooting in downtown Madison after a judge ordered the case bound over Wednesday, court records show.
Parson is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide and three counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety. Each charge carries a dangerous-weapon modifier. A not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf. His next court date has not been scheduled.
According to the criminal complaint, Parson fired about 10 to 12 shots at a vehicle on June 13. The people inside told police they were near Peace Park on West Gilman Street and backing up to make a U-turn when the shooting began. They estimated five or six bullets struck or entered the vehicle.
Police allege the vehicle drove away as Parson ran into an alley between the 200 block of West Gilman Street and Peace Park. Officers later found him hiding in an alley in the 400 block of State Street and recovered a black Glock 23 handgun, the complaint says.
The charges are allegations, and Parson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
